Urban Exploring

28.png

Jon and I consider ourselves to be urban explorers. What is urbexing you ask? Urbexing is the act of exploring sites of manmade structures, usually abandoned ruins or hidden components within an environment that's been left through numerous reasons. We enter if we can- without force - and document the site by taking photographs, leaving with nothing, but only footprints. Urbex exploring is an activity we started doing very early on, and something we enjoy doing still to this day.

On days off, we search for abandoned places to explore to see the gradual process of urban decay. Observing Mother Nature reclaim back her land is a very emotional sight to see. It's sad to think once a lively site so commonly used and loved, now suddenly has lost it's life and purpose with no indication as to how it happened. For me its the suddenness of it all- I find it chilling and at points sad to see sentimental items once so cherished now decaying and unloved.

We have explored so many abandoned sites across the UK and many across Europe. Although we have explored many abandoned asylums and hospitals- there's also sites abandoned out there that are more uplifting and fascinating to explore. My favourite finding to date is a double decker bus stranded in a field within the UK. Another was a shipwreck founded in the Isles of Scotland with everything so safely preserved inside. It's hard to believe that people would up and leave things like this.

We love uploading our photographic content to dedicated urbexing forums to view other explorers photographs. It's gets us within the community and striving to continually improve our photographs. Both being creatives, its a very easy choice to plan our days off and decide where to explore, though we often wonder how do other couples spend their days off doing.

If you ever are considering urbexing, please remember the golden rule of urbex is to leave the site in exactly the same way you found it upon arrival. Never force entry or cause unnecessary damage. Furthermore, remember to never venture anywhere alone for safety reasons.
